Ronald Wayne Swan

September 28, 1936 – March 4, 2025
Obituary of Ronald Wayne Swan
IN THE CARE OF

Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home

Ronald Wayne Swan was born on September 28, 1936, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He graduated from Boston Trade High School in 1956 as a professional baker. Shortly after, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961 as a Field Radio Repair specialist, including overseas service in Germany. He remained an Army Reservist for three years before receiving an honorable discharge.

Ron dedicated 36 years of his career to Boston Edison, spending three years as a Quality Control Inspector before working as a licensed steam engineer for 33 years.

On November 22, 1958, Ron married Barbara Joan Hare, and together they built a life in Scituate, Massachusetts, where they lived for over 60 years. He was deeply involved in his community through the Scituate Historical Society and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where he served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Junior Warden.

Affectionately known as “The Breadmaker,” Ron found joy in baking and generously shared hundreds of loaves each year with friends, family, and neighbors. He had a keen mind for word and number puzzles, strategic board games, and cards. His creativity shone through his love for acting in local theater productions, painting, and photography. A lifelong learner, he continued attending lectures and classes well into his 80s.

Ron cherished spending 15 winters in Arizona visiting his son and family, enjoying the warmth, picking fresh grapefruit, walking their dog Bailey, and playing games around the dining room table.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara; daughter Deborah Carleen; son Stephen (Kristy) Swan; grandchildren Courtney (Aaron) Dotson and Christopher Swan; and great-grandchildren Harper and Jaxson Dotson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Ann (Ned) Warner, sister-in-law Fran Hare, and several nieces and nephews.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Gustav Herman Swan and Gladys May Swan, as well as his brother, Richard Herman Swan.

A private ceremony with military honors was held at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree, Massachusetts.
