Born and raised in Scituate, MA passed away peacefully on the morning of December 7, 2016 at the age of 78. He was the devoted father of Jane Watt, Laurie Waterman and her husband Dana and Heather Violette and her fiance Jeff Cole and adored stepfather of and Kristine Smith and her husband Justin. Cherished grandfather of James, Susan, Curtis, Jacob, Hannah, Trevor and Myah. Great grandfather of Kaylee. Loving brother of Billy Green, Paul Green, Richard Green and his wife Judy, Donald Green and his wife Bea, Diane Kennedy, Joseph Green, and the late Elaine Altieri. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
Robert was a decorated USMC veteran, having been recognized with the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Following his service to our country, he continued serving communities as an officer in the Scituate Police Department and subsequently the Metropolitan and State Police. During his time as an officer, Robert graduated with honors from Northeastern University's School of Criminal Justice. He was an active member of the VFW, where he served as a Past Commander of the VFW Satuit Post 3169.
Robert will be missed by so many. Some that called him Dad, Robbie, Bobby, Bob, Grandpa, Papa and even "Dr. Green." His inviting smile, big heart and beautiful soul touched the lives of everyone he met - above and beyond his family, from the time at the Marine Corps boot camp, to his partners on the job, to camping trips across the country, to his annual trek through Maryland on his way to Florida. His love of life was contagious and brought together families, friends and co-workers.
Visiting hours at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate on Tuesday, Dec. 13 from 4-8 PM. Funeral from the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 9 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Interment private.
