Richard Maulhardt Murphy, 81, died peacefully in his home in Scituate, on August 26 after a long illness. Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Palleiko, his brother, William John Murphy (Billy), Billy's partner Sybille Rechten, and his cousins Richard and Gail Miner of New Jersey. He is also survived by his three stepchildren: Ben Palleiko and his wife Pamela of Hopkinton and their children Benjamin, Daniel and Andrew; Susan Roberts (Palleiko) and her husband Richard of Roswell, GA along with their children Matthew, Sarah, Shannon and Stefani and their families; and David Palleiko and his wife Heather of Southborough and their children Allison and Christopher. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Alma and John J. Murphy.
Richard was born and spent his childhood in Dedham, Massachusetts. He had fond memories of summers spent in Marshfield with his aunts and cousins. Richard attended Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, California. He then attended The Catholic University in Washington, D.C. where he developed a love for architecture. After obtaining his degree, Richard spent his professional career planning and designing a variety of iconic architectural projects around the world.
Outside of work, Richard loved and enjoyed life, and was an avid sailor, skier, golfer, and adventure traveler. He and Mary Anne spent many years traveling with family and friends all over the globe. Richard's exuberant personality and love of life will be missed by all who knew him well.
A visitation will be held on Thursday August 31, 2023 at 8:30am-9:30am at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate.
