Paul D. Johnson Sr., - (Coach), of Scituate and Plymouth passed away on April 12, 2016, at the age of 76. Paul is survived by his loving and devoted spouse of 26 years, Franny Brandt, loving children Paul Jr and wife Pauline of Scituate, Lori Johnson Zumbach of Franklin, TN, Michael Johnson and wife Grace of Makawao, HI, Katie Johnson of Scituate, Nicole Johnson of Rockand, cherished grandfather of PJ lll, Sammy, Sara, John, Sabrina, Tessa, Lexi, and Jordan.
Paul D Johnson Sr. was a Coach, Teacher, Father, Grandfather, and Friend. A Scituate High School graduate of the class of 1958, Paul was a 3 sport athletic stand out and still holds the strike out record at Scituate High School, 22 batters in 9 innings. He had 2 Red Sox tryouts, one as a pitcher and one as a catcher, attended Manlius Prep School in NY, then attended Boston University on a football scholarship where he played football and hockey. He was a long time teacher and coach at Scituate High School where he had coaching success in football and hockey, bringing teams to the State Playoffs in hockey and the Superbowl in football in 1979, where he received the Boston Globe 'Coach of the Year' award. During his tenure at SHS he was undefeated in badminton. His summers where spent working at the family restaurant, Johnson's Drive In in Marshfield MA. He enjoyed camping, boating, spending time with family and close friends, and watching his children and grandchildren grow up.
Visitation Service will be on Sunday, April 17th from 1pm to 5pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate. Burial will be private.
