Nancy H. (Wade) Litchfield passed away March 17 at the age of 93 from injuries suffered in a tragic fall a day earlier. She is now at rest with her husband, Francis, to whom she was married for 65 years. Born in Scituate Hospital (a fact she loved to tell those who never knew there was a hospital in town), she and her husband were well known lifelong residents of Scituate. After high school, she trained at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston during WW2 and became a registered nurse. At war’s end, she left nursing and married her sweetheart Francis and raised her four children. Her passion was sewing, working from home as a seamstress her entire adult life, sewing for individuals as well as handling tailoring for her cousin’s business, Scituate Cleansers. Later on, she worked at Fashion Fabrics in North Scituate, getting to know the many who shared her love for sewing. Her always smiling disposition will be missed by all her customers those many years. A favorite pastime was making stuffed animals, enjoyed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as all who purchased them from donations she made to church fairs over many years. Her cherished smocked christening dresses were worn by many newborn children over the years.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen and his wife Martha, Douglas, and Kenneth, all of Scituate and her daughter, Karen Tucker and her husband Kenneth, of Easton MA, nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She is now at rest, predeceased by her grandson, Richard Tucker, who died recently serving our county on his fourth tour to Afghanistan with the Navy Sea Bees.
A memorial service will be held at 7 pm on Friday, April 8th at the Scituate Harbor Methodist Church, 55 First Parish Rd, Scituate. Burial will be private.
