QUINN, Marie Elizabeth, 93, of Marshfield, former longtime resident of the Wollaston neighborhood of Quincy, passed away peacefully at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, on the morning of September 2, 2020.
Born in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Langan) Quinn. They both immigrated to the United States from Ireland. Marie was a 1943 graduate of North Quincy High School and went on to further her education taking administrative courses at Burnett College. Marie lived nearly her entire life in her childhood home, where she was born and raised. Marie was an ambitious woman and took great pride in earning the position of Executive Secretary to the President of Carter Rice, a paper distribution company in Boston. She held this position for over 40 years until her retirement in 1994.
Ever the fashionista, Marie had impeccable taste in clothing and never turned down an opportunity to dress to the nines. She could rarely be spotted without her signature Gucci sunglasses, whether indoors or out. For many years, she loved bowling with friends at Olindy’s Bowling Lanes in Quincy. When age prohibited her from bowling in the league, she took up Wii bowling with her friends and neighbors at Proprietor’s Green and consistently held the high score. Marie loved playing cards and sitting at the slot machines at Foxwoods, often with a glass of her favorite Woodbridge Cabernet in hand. She also appreciated the simpler things and was never without Eggo Waffles in her freezer. Marie was an avid New England Patriots Football Fan and would never miss a game on TV. She also rooted for the Boston Red Sox and loved watching golf and bowling on TV. Marie also enjoyed reading and collecting books, especially by her favorite author, James Patterson.
She was the sister of the late Joseph C. Quinn and John J. Quinn and his wife the late Lorraine P. Quinn whom she was very close. She was the cherished aunt of the late Joseph C. Quinn Jr., Peter Quinn of Boca Raton, FL, Marybeth Quinn of Sanwich, John J. Quinn, Jr ( wife Ginny) of Weymouth, Arthur J. Quinn of Weymouth, Andrea Q. Santoro (husband Charles) of Scituate, Garrett M. Quinn (wife Mary) of Hanover, Matthew A. Quinn (wife Cindy) of Scarborough, Maine. Marie also leaves behind her 13 great nieces and great nephews, her lifelong best friend Peggy Hoffstetter, and her many friends at the Village of Proprietors Green. She will be reunited with her beloved dog, a chocolate lab mix named Major, who awaits her in Heaven.
Private services will be held in the coming weeks and she will be laid to rest beside her parents at Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s name can be made to the Pat Roche Hospice Home, 86 Turkey Hill Lane Hingham, Ma 02043 c/o Norwell VNA AND Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
