Lawrence C. Keenan

Scituate – Lawrence “Larry” Charles Keenan of Scituate, MA and Freedom, NH passed away on Sunday May 30th 2011 at the age of 82. Loving husband of 58 years to Eleanore (Hunt) Keenan, father of Sandra L Dooley and her husband Robert of Groveland, MA and Peter C. Keenan and his wife Michele of Hampstead, NH. Larry was the loving grandfather of Chris and Abigail Garland, Brian and Michael Keenan. He was born the son of the late Frederick M and Anna (Clark) Keenan of Hingham. He is survived by his sister Louise (Keenan) Driscoll of Hingham. He was the brother of the late Robert Keenan, Fred Keenan, Edward Keenan and sister of Frances (Keenan) Sumner. Born in Cambridge he was raised in Hingham where he graduated from Hingham High School in 1946. Larry served in the US Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1952 and received his Master’s degree from Bridgewater State in 1958. Larry has lived in Scituate since 1954 where he served as “Athletic Director” for the Scituate Public Schools for 25 years. He also served as the varsity basketball coach for 10 years. Larry retired in 1980 and started a sports medicine business. Mr. Keenan was honored by the “Patriot League” by having a division named the “Keenan Division”. Larry was also a resident of Freedom, NH, having a home on Ossipee Lake where he and his family & friends enjoyed many years of boating, snowmobiling and skiing. Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, June 5, 2011, from 3PM to 7PM at the Richardson – Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary’s Church in Scituate on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 10AM followed by interment at Hingham Center Cemetery.
