Justin F. Mahoney, 25, of Scituate died at home unexpectedly on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Loving son of Francis X., Jr. and Lori A. (McGovern) of Scituate. Born in Boston, Justin attended Boston College High School and graduated from Scituate High School. He attended the University of Massachusetts in Boston, studied for a semester in Germany, and was most recently employed as a Security Officer at Newport Hospital in Rhode Island.
An American history buff, 12-year-old Justin enjoyed Civil War reenactment as a member of the 22nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Throughout his childhood and young adulthood, Justin was a talented athlete who excelled in hockey, baseball and lacrosse. He was a member of the coaching staff of the Scituate Lacrosse 2008 State Championship team. He was active in music and theatre, performing as a member of the Boston ensemble cast of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as numerous community theatre productions. Justin was a world-class mimic who could imitate any voice with comic flair and entertain the multitudes with witty, if twisted, spontaneous adaptions of song lyrics.
Devoted brother of Patrick Mahoney and the late Timothy Mahoney of Scituate. Grandson of Josephine and Gino DiGirolamo of Pembroke, the late Jean and Joseph McGovern of Cranston, RI., and Francis X. Mahoney, Sr. of Cohasset. Also survived by many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Visiting hours will be held at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Nativity Church on Friday at 10AM followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
