Mr. Joseph V. Genovese – 65, of Scituate passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a remarkably dignified and brave fight against cancer. He was the beloved husband of Debora (Kulbaba) Genovese, with whom he had recently celebrated 36 years of marriage.
Joseph was born in Palermo, Sicily in 1951, the son of the late Victor and Maria (Pino) Genovese. The family immigrated to the United States in 1960 and settled in Lowell, Massachusetts. Joseph earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Bridgewater State University. He went on to a career of nearly 25 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent. During his career, he and his family spent two 4 year tours living in Rome.
He retired in 2004 and went on to teach for 3 years at Sacred Heart High School in Kingston, MA, where he also coached tennis and soccer. He went on to be employed by an international global security company based in Switzerland, where he lived for 10 years until his retirement in December of 2016.
Joseph was passionate about his work, world culture, foreign affairs and was a fervent history expert. He also enjoyed playing tennis and spending time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
He was the devoted father of Amanda, Angela, Alexandra and Adriana Genovese of Scituate. Cherished grandfather of Emma and Milania.
Visiting Hours will take place on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Funeral Mass on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at St. Anthony’s Church, 10 Summer Street, Cohasset, MA. People wishing to attend may travel directly to church on Monday morning. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Scituate.
