Dr. John A. Peters, II, died at home in Scituate, Massachusetts on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the age of 86. He was married to Lillian (Clark) Peters for more than 60 years and father of six children. Dr. Peters served as chief pathologist at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth until his retirement in 1989.
Son of Rudolph and Margaret (Brazinski) Peters, born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, John’s education was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He graduated in 1950 from Princeton University. He was a 1954 graduate of Harvard Medical School and completed his residency in Pathology at Boston City Hospital before joining South Shore Hospital in 1958.
Dr. Peters was a Fellow of the American College of Pathologists. He was a member of the American Medical Association and the Massachusetts Medical Society. He was a member and former president of the Norfolk South District Medical Society. He also served as president of the South Shore Hospital medical staff.
Dr. Peters was an active member of the Weymouth Rotary for over four decades and a two time recipient of Rotary’s Paul Harris fellowship.
A lifelong proponent of higher education, John had special interest in mathematics, astronomy, Shakespeare and linguistics. John was a longtime member of the Chanticleers Men’s Breakfast Club. Other favorite pastimes over the years included classical music, bowling and weightlifting. In his retirement years, working outside on his property gave him many hours of enjoyment.
In addition to his wife Lillian, John is survived by three sons, John A. Peters III (Jack) and his wife Sharon of Los Angeles, CA, Clark of Groton, CT and Michael and his wife Patricia of Rockland, two daughters, Lynn and her husband Peter Giorgetti of Sharon, and Stacey of Durango, CO. He is predeceased by daughter Ann. Grandfather of nine, Jesse and Bill of CA, Megan and Kallie of CT, Daniel and Lauren Giorgetti of Sharon, Christina and Thomas Malloy of Rockland, Cheryl Emerson of Braintree and great grandfather of Lillian Emerson. Also survived by his beloved Akita, Ursa.
Dr. Peter’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday June 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. At the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home 382 First Parish Road Scituate. Burial will be private.
