John Charles O’Connor III, 68, of Plymouth, previously of Scituate and South Boston, passed away on November 9th. He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 46 years, Deborah (Wilkinson), as well as Kelly and (John) Raymond of Plymouth, Casey and (Monique) O’Connor of Kingston, and Dorion and (William) Comer of Center Conway, NH, for all of whom he was a devoted Father. A cherished Grandfather, he was fondly known as Popi to his grandchildren Aubrie, John IV (Jack), Ella, Miles, Lyla, Connor, Charlotte, and Everly, who he adored and supported as their number one fan, attending their sports games, dance recitals, school plays, award ceremonies, and any event that celebrated their achievements.
John, affectionately called Okie by his N&8th friends, was a proud product of South Boston and a 1973 Don Bosco High School graduate. He started his career at Gillette before establishing himself in the IT industry, where he forged lasting friendships. John had a deep passion for music, going to shows with his group of like-minded music friends. He was also a regular with his Poquoy Boys on the golf course. An avid reader and Civil War buff, he had an insatiable curiosity.
Family-oriented, John relished the summer vacations in New Hampshire and the road trips across the United States with Deborah, often including stops in Las Vegas. The trips with his grandchildren were filled with joy, from snow tubing to visiting Myrtle Beach, Disney, and Universal Studios.
The eldest son of the late John II and Mary (Dorion) and brother to the late Barry and Barbara. John is survived by his sisters Mary, Nancy, and his brother Paul. His life was characterized by love, friendship, and adventure. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family invites relatives and friends for an evening visitation, 4 to 8 PM, at Richardson Gaffey Funeral Home 382 First Parish Rd. Scituate, MA on Monday, November 13th. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, John would like that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
