John N. Leighton Jr.

He was the beloved husband of Cerila N (Leitao) Leighton. Dear son of the late John Leighton Sr. and Minnie Gilmete. Devoted father of Liz Chipman and her husband Doug, Donald Leighton, Vinny Leighton, Ginny Leighton and Michael Leighton and his wife Jean all of Scituate. Cherished grandfather of Emily, Nicolas, Zachary, Maria, John, Abby and devoted great grandfather of Dominic. Father of Linda Guerrera, David Leighton and grandfather of Matthew, Allen, Kamala, Chris. Loving brother of Virginia Duarte and the late Joseph Leighton and Amancio Leighton. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

A Korean War veteran, John was a retired letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Scituate and Hull. Following his retirement he worked as a handy man and in the paint department at Sears in the Hanover Mall.

Funeral from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate on Friday August 26, 2016 at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Cudworth Cemetery, Scituate. Visiting hours Thursday August 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
