Joan graduated from Nashua High School in 1938 and received a full scholarship to Radcliffe upon graduation. Due to the depression years it was necessary for her to go to work and earn money to help her family.
Her thirst for knowledge allowed her to take on roles of leadership throughout her life. She became the president of the Juliet Gordon Lowe Foundation for the state of Massachusetts, president of the philanthropic women’s group of her church, The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, president of the Woburn and Plymouth Garden Club, President of the Woburn and Plymouth Women’s Club, grand officer in the Order of the Eastern Star and she later established a campership foundation for needy children with the Salvation Army.
Joan was always the first to volunteer and in doing so touched many lives with her kindness. Her smile and kind words will always be remembered everyone who knew her.
Joan is predeceased by her husband George of Woburn, her parents, sisters Constance Sparks, Helen Simoulis and brother Philip.
She is survived by her children, Elaine and her late husband Charles Kiklis of Scituate, Arthur Leanos and his wife Joan of Hanson. Grandchildren David Kiklis and his wife Gretchen, of Framingham, Kristen Jervey and her husband James of Norwell, Joanne Hudson and her husband Matthew of Bluffton, South Carolina, Jason Leanos and his wife Maruja of Tampa, Florida, Amy Ross and her husband Christopher of Hanson. Joan is also survived by Christofer, Mackenzie, Max, Shelby, Riley, Emma and Logan, Alexander and Victoria, Taylor and Christopher, her beloved and adored great grandchildren.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
