Gertrude was born in Dorchester and lived most of her life in Scituate. She was a graduate of Scituate High School and Boston University School for the Arts. Until her retirement in 1969, she was a music specialist in the Scituate Schools. She also taught for several years in the Norwell Schools. After her retirement, she taught piano privately. For over 50 years she had been the organist at St. Anthony’s Church, Cohasset, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church in North Scituate and St. Mary of the Nativity Church in Scituate. She had been a member of the Scituate Country Club sine the 1930’s.
Gertrude is survived by her nephew, Michael Gillespie, her niece, Margaret Urban and five grand nephews.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary of the Nativity Church.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, April 24h from 2pm to 6pm at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 25th at 10 AM in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, One Kent Street, Scituate followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Scituate.
