He was born and raised in Portland, ME. He and his wife moved to Hingham in 1948, then to Scituate in 1955. Jerry was a Retired US Navy Veteran and served for more than 20 years during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was proud to have, along with his commanding officer, been the first to make a transcontinental helicopter flight.
He retired as a Divisional Sales Manager for Premier Industries out of Cleveland, OH.
He was very politically active in the Town of Scituate and was elected for 4 terms on the Board of Selectman. He served in the Conservation Committee, the Planning Board and was a founding father of Widow’s Walk Golf Course. He was also a member of the Scituate Beach Association.
Jerry was an avid skier and enjoyed playing golf. He volunteered his time for many years as a Scoutmaster for the local Boy Scouts.
Devoted father of Gerald E. Dwight, Jr. and his wife Linda of Marshfield, Michael F. Dwight and his wife Rita of Pembroke, Peter B. Dwight of Hillsboro, NH and the late Dennis A. Dwight. Cherished grandfather of Brandon J. Dwight and his wife Heather of Boulder, CO and Tracy (Dwight) Baron and her husband Jeremy of Laconia, NH and the late Michael Andrews Dwight and Zachary Dwight. Proud great grandfather of Brooke Baron, Addison Baron, Maggie Dwight and Grey Dwight.
A visitation will take place on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10 AM at Cudworth Cemetery.
