George Henry Sullivan Jr., of Scituate Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his home in the early morning hours of October 3, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 66 years old.
George was born on February 27, 1956 to his parents George and Louise Sullivan in Brockton, Massachusetts. George met the love of his life, Linda, in 1978. After a beautiful courtship, they married in 1979 and went on to have two children, Katherine M. Sullivan and George Henry Sullivan III. They shared 43 wonderful years together as husband and wife.
George worked for Star Market for a number of years before joining the custodial staff of Scituate High School, where he graciously served for more than 20 years. Everyone at Scituate High - administrators, staff and students - knew and adored George, and his warm presence was always felt throughout the halls of SHS. His retirement sendoff in early 2020, where a packed gymnasium wished him well and students donned shirts exclaiming "Thank you, George!" was truly a testament to the level of respect and admiration felt for George.
At home, at work or in the community, George touched many lives. He was the “go-to man” for practically everyone who knew him. He had a huge heart and gave of himself without reservation. He loved helping the kids, teachers, coaches and anyone else that came across his path. He was known to most as a giant teddy bear with one hell of a handshake. Everyone who knew George loved him.
Above all else, George was a family man. Spending quality time with his wife, children and grandsons meant everything to him. Without question, George would do anything for his family and he protected them at all costs. George was a true gentleman. His character, integrity, morals and faith could not be measured and will be always be remembered as his defining characteristics.
George was predeceased by his parents, Louise and George. He is survived by his wife Linda of Scituate, his daughter Katherine of Marshfield, his son George along with his grandsons George IV and Brian Sullivan of Weymouth, his brother Ellsworth Sullivan of Florida and his sister Louise Sullivan of Florida.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 4pm - 8pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate.
