BAKER, George A. - 88, longtime Scituate resident passed away peacefully on the morning of November 14, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Dame) Baker, with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Upstate New York, he was the son of the late George H. and Leona H. (Shields) Baker. He was a 1952 graduate of Scituate High School and went on to attend Harvard University. He served his country in the United States Air Force, going on to enjoy a lengthy career as a senior electrical engineer with Raytheon Technologies where he participated in the design of the Patriot missile.
George loved living in a coastal town, taking friends and family out on the boat on the North River and fishing out of Scituate Harbor. An avid gardener, many enjoyed a wide variety of vegetables from his garden. He enjoyed woodworking, creating many fine pieces of furniture and building a home in Nova Scotia, where he and Dorothy spent summers. George also traveled to many countries around the world and was especially fond of Cancun, spending winters there for over 30 years.
Devoted father of Heidi Baker Browne and her husband Matthew of Scituate, Susan Baker Adams and her husband Anthony of Scituate and Jonathan William Baker of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of Avery, Griffin, Jennifer, Jessica, Lindsay, Sarah and Elizabeth. Great grandfather of Kastan. Loving brother of Dean R. Baker and his wife Gayle of Fryeburg, ME.
A visitation will be held from 1-3pm with a memorial service immediately following on Saturday, December 3rd at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree, MA.
