Frances E. (McCarthy) White – 78 of Weymouth, formerly of Pembroke and Scituate, passed away on December 16, 2024, after a long battle with Type 2 Diabetes. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. White Jr., with whom she shared 48 years of marriage before his passing in 2018. Frances, affectionately known as “Franki” by her family, was the second oldest daughter of the late John and Ann (Madden) McCarthy and was raised with her four siblings in Dorchester.
An ardent Catholic, Frances was a member of the former St. Margaret’s parish in Dorchester, attended Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School and graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School. In pursuit of furthering her education, she also attended UMass Boston and Emmanuel College.
She met her husband John E. White while they both worked at Firemans Fund in Boston and married in September 1970. Frances was an ambitious woman who not only raised a family but worked in the accounting departments of Stoneridge (fka Pollak) for over 30 years and Panapesca for 15 years, before her retirement in 2023. For over 15 years Frances also owned and ran Abbey Road Limousine with her husband John. Throughout her years of working and raising a family, Frances also taught Sunday School at St. Francis’ Church in Scituate, organized and volunteered with the Clam Point Society in Dorchester and the Scituate Arts Association. Frances was also a passionate supporter of her husband John’s artistic pursuits as well as local artists.
Franki loved to sing and always had music playing or was humming a tune. Gathering with her large extended family was a favorite activity of Franki’s. Whether it was to celebrate special occasions, raise a glass, or have a sing-along, she cherished her time with family (even if she was late). Frances will be lovingly remembered for her sense of humor, stubborn determination, love of family and pets, and deep faith in God.
She is survived by her daughter Nicole White, daughter-in-law Heather (Tower) White, grandchildren Charlotte and John D. White, sisters Catherine (McCarthy) Reedy, Marie (McCarthy) and her husband Glen Kashner, brothers John McCarthy and his wife Diane, and Robert McCarthy and his wife Lyn Newkirk. Frances also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Frances’ beloved son Justin White passed in 2022. She can now rest in peace joining him, her husband, and several family members in the presence of God’s love.
Services will be held after the New Year and shared via family members. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in Frances’s memory to a charity of your choice.
