Husband of Linda (DeMello) Cass of Norwell 46 years
Born in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Bert and Betty (Williams) Cass. Father of Jennifer (Cass) Smith, Father in Law of Ben Smith, Papa to Zoe and Abel Smith
Ed, or Eddie as he was known by friends, never went far from the South Shore. Graduating from Scituate High School, Eddie worked as a counselor at Camp Daniel Webster in Marshfield and learned photo developing at Al's Photo Studio in Cohasset. Eddie spent many years working as a machinist for The Foxboro Company, as well as Richie Navigation building boat compasses. Eddie was a hard worker with a generous heart, who wanted to see others happy. Funny and quirky, this man called you either "Dear" or "Buddy" but, hardly by your name.
Eddie loved hot rods, antique cars, loud movies and a nice breeze from the cranberry bog. He loved taking in the scenes of the boats on the Harbor and enjoying iced coffee at the lighthouse. He took pride in his hometown, often sporting a vintage St. Pats parade shirt or a 02066 baseball cap. He informed anyone who asked, that he lived on "Old Oaken Bucket Road, right across from the bog". He knew the best subs around were from Marias, he took more than he left at the “Take it or Leave it” area of the dump, and the blizzard of '78 solidified his disdain for snow. He enjoyed the ride on mower and completing all the necessary yard work on his own so he could bask in it later. He was simple, in that a freshly cut lawn and weed whacked perimeter was precisely what filled his cup. Eddie was a loving Papa to Zoe and Abel, reveling in “How big they get so darn so fast” He was a supportive Dad, always there. Eddie was a loving, caring, thoughtful husband who loved his Linda dearly. He will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview Avenue, Scituate.
