Dean L. Prescott, age 63, of Norwell, passed away on his birthday, Thursday, August 22nd, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. In true Dean fashion, he made sure to only allow one day of the year to be about him.
The son of the late John Prescott and Gertrude “Trudy” (Cole) Prescott, Dean grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Quincy High School, class of 1979. He was an excellent athlete, and a member of the Quincy High School Baseball Hall of Fame following his induction in 2000.
Dean was proud to be a First Sergeant in the United States Army (972 MP Co), where he served in Operation Desert Storm. A Bronze Star recipient, Dean, met his beautiful wife of 30 years, Colleen, during their time overseas. Together they had four children, Joe, Alex, Stephanie and Nicole. Out of the many accomplishments in Dean’s life, he was the most proud of his kids.
He attended his daughters’ dance recitals and stood beaming with bouquets of flowers after the show. But there is nowhere Dean loved to be more than in a hockey rink, never missing a game and often even playing the role of honorary coach. No one gave better advice than Dean both on and off the ice.
Recently retired after owning his own business, New England Office Connection (NEOC), for 38 years, Dean used that time to make special memories with his wife and kids that we will all cherish forever. Dean will be remembered for his larger than life personality, contagious laugh, and his ability to grill the perfect steak.
Dean is survived by his brothers John C. Prescott, Jr., Glen T. Prescott and sisters Beverly J. Cannone, Sharon Healy Mahoney, and the late Lori Prescott Carta. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate, MA 02066 on Wednesday, August 28th from 4pm-8pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Mary of the Nativity, 1 Kent St, Scituate, MA on Thursday, August 29th at 10 am. For those who wish, donations in Dean’s memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
