Cornelius Jay "C.J." Robinson, Jr. of Palm Coast, FL and Scituate, MA passed away Tuesday, January 25th after a long illness. C.J. was born on November 5, 1938 in Irvington, NJ to Lillian and Cornelius Robinson Sr. and settled in Scituate as a child. In his younger days, he enjoyed lobstering and mossing.
A businessman and entrepreneur since 1957, C.J. was the owner of South River Sand & Gravel in Marshfield, C.J. Robinson Co. Contractors in Scituate, and Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH and loved to tell of how he buried the Scituate sea monster back in the 1970’s. A lifelong auto racing enthusiast, C.J. fielded race cars for some of New England’s top drivers and more recently with his son, Curtis, at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.
C.J. was a proud 60-year member of Satuit Lodge AF & AM.
C.J. is survived by his sons, Curtis (Sue) and Mark; his grandchildren, Nicole, Devyn and Paul Robinson; his sister, Lois (Joe) Lawlor; nephew Jay Lawlor and niece Erica Lawlor; his former spouses, Emily Robinson and Judy Robinson, with whom he remained close; his beloved dogs, Homer and Foxy; and many friends and acquaintances from Scituate as well as from the racing community.
Visitation at Richardson Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 4 to 8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Funeral service Saturday, February 5th at 10 AM at First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery followed by a reception of remembrance at Satuit Lodge, 344 Country Way, Scituate.
