Born in Medford and raised in South Boston, he was the son of the late Conrad Leonhardi and Olivette Marie (Henuset) Holmes. He graduated from the Boston Trade School and attended classes at the University of Maryland.
Mr. Leonhardi was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving 20 years and retiring as an E-7 Chief Petty Officer. He specialized in aviation and hydraulics and served his country throughout his entire life, first in active duty, then as a reservist and later as a civilian employee of the Department of Defense.
His assignments enabled him to travel and experience life throughout the United States and overseas. He was stationed in several southern states and took a post at Naval Air Facility Midway Island during the Vietnam Era. He concluded his active duty career in Georgia, which is where he and his wife settled to raise their family.
He was a proud longtime member of the Fleet Reserve Association. A skilled hobbyist, Mr. Leonhardi especially enjoyed woodworking.
He was a devoted husband of 57 years to Ina Jean (Conley) Leonhardi. He is survived by his sons: Ray Leonhardi, Michael (Dee) Leonhardi and Robert ( Ashley) Leonhardi; and his daughters Lisette (Jim) Perry and Christine ( Brian) Roschli.
Grandfather of Christine, Jacob, Chase, Kaleigh, Zach, Parker, Gatlin and Finley Leonhardi.
He was the loving brother of David (Camille) Leonhardi, Christine Moriarty, Esther Holmes and the late Marjorie Bechtel and Olivette Holmes. Step son of the late Walter Holmes.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends.
Mr. Leonhardi was laid to rest on October 8, 2021, with US Navy Funeral Honors at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
