Baptized Anne, but known to her family and friends as Nancy, she was one of ten children born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She attended St. Helena’s Grammar and High School before graduating from Fordham University. She later earned her Masters In Education from Central Connecticut State University. During the summer of 1955, she attended a parish dance in Scarsdale, NY where she met Edward Francis Fagan. It was not long before the two were married, in July 1958. Together, they created a loving and devoted family.
Filled with a fierce love of teaching and strong interest in helping others, Nancy was an elementary school teacher for nearly 25 years. She was beloved by the hundreds of students whom she embraced as extensions of her large family. Nancy was a golfer, crossword puzzler and avid mystery reader.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Ed, in 2003. She is survived by her five children: Ted Fagan of Stafford CT, Kathy Fagan and her husband Martin Bauer of Milton MA, Mary Fagan of Scituate, MA, Chris Fagan and his wife Suzanne Shaw of Cambridge, MA, Tricia Griffiths and her husband Bill Griffiths of Scituate, MA, her French “daughter” Isabelle Anfray Dufour of Paris, France - as well as her cherished seven grandchildren, her “chickens”- Brian, Cullen, Owen, Molly, Will, Jane and Grace. She is also survived by her sister Grace Rock, and will be remembered by a legion of loving nieces and nephews, each one her favorite.
Her family will receive friends at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home in Scituate, MA on Friday September 22nd from 4-8pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 23rd at 10am at St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate, MA, with a burial immediately to follow.
