Anne M. Dickinson of Scituate and Captiva, FL, died peacefully at home on Thursday, December 28th after a four-year battle with cancer. Anne was the daughter of the late Albert W. Dickinson and the late Doris G. Dickinson of Scituate.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Anne attended Fontbonne Academy in Bethel Park, PA, until her senior year, when she moved to Scituate, graduating from Scituate High School in 1966. She graduated from Emmanuel College and earned a Masters Degree at Boston State College.
Anne taught special education at the former Krebs School in Lexington and for many years at the Lincoln and Devotion Schools in Brookline. After her retirement from teaching she cared for her father, helping him to survive to his 100th year.
She traveled cross-country several times, exploring the beauty of our National Parks, visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Colorado, and other states, as well as spending vacations in her home in Captiva. She was an avid swimmer and cross-country skier, loved hiking, camping, and fishing, and she was a member of the Scituate Rod & Gun Club. In addition to her many outdoor activities, she loved spending time with her brothers and sisters and especially her many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews (and their pets).
She is survived by Justin Curry, her former ward, whom she raised, and who helped care for her during her illness, and by brothers Martin of Washington, DC., and Thomas (Kathleen) of Woonsocket, RI, as well as sisters Mary Margaret Bird (James) of Orono, ME, and Elizabeth Furlong (John) of Weymouth. Anne very much appreciated Elizabeth’s loving devotion during her long fight with cancer. She is also survived by her cousins, the Goodrows of Essex Junction, VT and the Chases of Barre, MA., all of whom she loved dearly.
She was predeceased by her older brother Robert and her twin brother William, with whom she shared a close bond.
In addition to her extended family, Anne had a large and diverse group of friends who will miss her greatly.
Family and friends are invited for a visitation at Richardson Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd. Scituate, MA, January 2, from 3-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St. Scituate, MA, January 3, at 10 AM followed by Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Anne’s memory to Fontbonne Academy, 930 Brook Road, Milton, MA, 02186, or online at
