Alex was born on December 1,1938 to Alex Holder, Sr. and his wife Rachel in McMinnville, Tennessee. He attended university in Tennessee before becoming an officer in the Army. Alex proudly served his country in the Vietnam War receiving a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart among many honors. Alex retired from the military achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Alex married the love of his life Carol (Wood) Holder in 1983. Alex and Carol loved to travel and experience the world, taking many trips. Alex’s love for all things military led him to become part of the Coastal Defense Study Group where he forged many friendships. Alex was an avid photographer, cataloging everything he could. He had a love for nature and kept the critters in the backyard fed.
Most of all, Alex loved to spend time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He always ensured that there was an adventure in store, whether it be traveling “out west”, to Europe, or just in the backyard. One of his favorite books to read to his grandchildren was “Drummer Hoff”. In his honor, let it be said: “Colonel Holder gave the order but Drummer Hoff fired it off! Kabaroom!”
Alex is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Jennifer and husband Robert; grandchildren, Andrew and Benjamin; brother Alan and wife Debbie, as well as many nieces and nephews. Alex is predeceased by his brothers Doug and Danny; sisters Marguerite and Betty. Alex was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. You will be truly missed, Sir.
