JAMES D. DORRIS HAMMOND, IN James D. Dorris, age 88, of Hammond passed away Monday, June 20, 2011. He is survived by his five children: Gloria Ossanna, Shirley (John) Bianchi, Marilyn Sancya, Sandy (Robert) Alonzo, and Carolyn (Mark) Salyer; one brother, Paul (Carol) Dorris; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and dearest friend, Ruth Jaron. Mr. Dorris was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Pauline "Polly". Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., (one-half mile south of US 30) Schererville, IN with Rev. Doug Klukken officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Dorris retired from Sheet Metal Workers Local # 20 in Portage, IN. He was a member of the Village Green Line Dancers and was an avid racing fan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James's loving memory to the Calumet Humane Society.
