

Mary Lou is survived by her four children: sons Greg (Deb) and Gary (Sue) Bergman, and daughters Greta (Kenny) McMullan and Greer (Reed) Zellers, as well as 9 grandchildren/step grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren/step great- grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband, Richard Theodore (“Curly”) Bergman in December 2015.
Mary Lou will be remembered as a vibrant woman who touched many lives. In her younger days, she made most of her children’s clothes, as she was a talented seamstress. She also enjoyed knitting and doing cross stitch. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She also dabbled in painting and even making leaded glass. She kept busy and always had an active project. She was a troop leader for Girl Scouts and made sure her troop experienced things including Washington DC trips and even the World’s Fair! Mary Lou waitressed for many years in Stouchsburg – she even worked in the shirt factory in Newmanstown for a period. In their later years (after retirement,) Curly and Mary Lou enjoyed traveling and spending time at their place in Delaware.
Mary Lou will be remembered as a warm and giving person, and an exceptional cook who loved teaching others how to make her family recipes. Mary Lou was well-versed in current events and would often be found watching the news for the latest stories. Mary Lou shared a love of dachshunds with many family members, and she loved all cats and dogs.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating a tree to the Newmanstown Park or the animal rescue of your choice in Mary Lou’s memory.
