Jay B. Hickernell, 85, loving father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 in Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, PA. He was the husband of the late Anna Mae Hartman Hickernell. He was a lifetime resident of Newmanstown, born on October 8, 1935, son of the late William M. and Emily Leibig Hickernell. Jay was a 1953 graduate of Newmanstown High School and attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute finishing in 1958. He served in the US Army and was privileged to play the bugle for the honor guard at the National Cemetery in St. Louis, as well as at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Jay worked at Textile Machine Works and later retired from Parker Hannifin in 2000, after 26 years of service. Jay had a love of music and enjoyed playing the trumpet for many local concert bands including, Lebanon Community Band, Washington Band of Annville, Keystone Band of Rehrersburg and Tulpehocken Band of Bernville. He was a member of Millcreek Lutheran Church in Newmanstown where he played in their Orchestra and sang in the Senior Choir. He is survived by sons, Scott Hickernell and wife Terry of Charleston, WV; Lynn Hickernell and wife Samantha of Newmanstown, grandchildren, Derek Hickernell, Kyle Hickernell, Corey Hickernell and Travis Hickernell; great grandchildren, Gavin Hickernell and Tatum Trinkle; brothers, Neil Hickernell of Newmanstown; Donald Hickernell and wife Phyllis of Myerstown; sisters, Winnefred Harris of Millersville; Joyce Raihl of Myerstown; Lorraine Eberly of Newmanstown. He was preceded in death by brothers, Clifford Hickernell and William Hickernell. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11 am in Millcreek Lutheran Church, 221 N. Sheridan Road, Newmanstown, PA, with a viewing beginning on Saturday at 10 am. Interment will be made in Millcreek Memorial Cemetery.
