Richard Kiley Murphy, Sr., 91, of Scarsdale, New York, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Richard was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 7, 1933. He was the sixth of 10 children born to Joseph E. Murphy and Kathleen Kiley Murphy.
Richard (known as “Rich” and “Dick” to his family and friends) had a wonderful childhood in Park Slope (Brooklyn, NY) and in Milford, PA. He attended Brooklyn Prep High School and the College of the Holy Cross. After graduating in 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He started his career in the textile business with Deering Milliken and later went on to work for the Bank of New York.
Richard was married to Janet Holmes Murphy on February 1, 1964. They resided in Scarsdale, NY for 60 years where they raised their 3 children. He was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. His most important volunteer work was for the Archdiocese of New York at the Cardinal McCloskey School and Home for Children.
He was a life-long sportsman, playing football at Brooklyn Prep and Holy Cross, he enjoyed the game of golf, and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants.
Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years Janet, his 3 children Michele, Kyle and Suzanne, son-in-law Brandon Gendron and his 2 grandchildren, Kyleigh and Jack. He is also survived by brothers David, Francis and Robert Murphy, sisters Kathleen Toolan and Betty Jane Gorman, and his many nieces and nephews, all whom he loved very much.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary Anne Petri and brothers Thomas, Joseph and William Murphy.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on December 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, NY.
