Joan Duval Todor was born at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY on February 21, 1930, to Herbert J. Duval, Sr., and Dorothy Armstrong Duval. She graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1948 went on to receive her Associates Degree. Starting her career in Albany as a research assistant, Joan then went on to work for more than 20 years at White Plains Hospital in the clinical laboratory where she formed lasting bonds with her colleagues and trainees alike. While there, she met her future husband, Laszlo Todor, and started her family welcoming her son Laszlo and daughter Roxanne. She then transitioned to Columbia Presbyterian working as a laboratory supervisor until her retirement at age 85. Joan was loved and respected by her family, friends, and co-workers. She was well known for her ability to make everyone she talked to feel important. Younger brother Herb and she shared a love of sports, and she and she was a doting Aunt to Christine, Jimmy, and Michael. She and youngest brother John enjoyed theatre and many culinary adventures together over the years. Joan was devoted to her family and shared that strong commitment with her daughter in law, Lisa, upon whom she relied so much in the past few years. Joan was also a strong supporter of her children, and then her grandchildren, Kyla, Maia, Matthew, Thomas, and Katelyn. She attended as many of their concerts, plays and sporting events as she could. She so enjoyed the annual pilgrimage to Vermont which she had been visiting every summer for over 50 years where she loved to read, often falling asleep on the porch overlooking the beautiful Lake Champlain sunset with a book on her lap and her glasses perched on her nose. She will be sorely missed by so many whose lives she touched.
