Joan was married to Richard Gerard Mino on October 23, 1954; they were married 58 years.
Joan is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Gary and Anne, Dennis and Colleen and Craig and Yvonne; her six grandchildren, Geoffrey, Erin, Shannon, Dennis Patrick, Chelsea, and Ryan; her cousin Jackie and her family: Debbie and John, their daughter Rachel, and Diane, who were always there for Joan, and the many other family members and friends too numerous to mention here – all cherished members of her extended family whom she so loved.
Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, her mother, Svea Havard and her father, John David Havard.
Joan was born in New Rochelle, NY on September 29, 1930. She graduated from New Rochelle High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts/Textiles from Syracuse University.
Joan started her work career as a graphic designer with Shell Oil Company before marrying her beloved husband, Richard Mino and starting her family. She went on to do freelance work for Lord and Burnham before becoming the art teacher for Thornton Donovan School in New Rochelle, NY, and then Sacred Heart School in Hartsdale, NY, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Elmsford, NY, and Holy Child in White Plains, NY, retiring finally at age 85 from her one true favorite, Thornton Donovan. Throughout her long career, Joan remained active in school and church activities at Sacred Heart, having served on the parish counsel for many years, designed the crucifix with the sitting Christ as Teacher now residing in the Church Baptistry as well as the new stained glass behind the alter, and served as a Eucharistic Minister administering Holy Communion to Mass attendees as well as to those unable to attend in person.
Joan never stopped loving art, and enjoyed creating watercolors, custom pen-and-ink renderings of the homes of friends and family, hand-lettering the calligraphy for student diplomas and awards for all four schools, painting custom slates, and extending her creative talents to a wide variety of hand-crafted personal items for family and home.
But most of all, she never stopped loving her family, her friends, and her community. For this, she will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at the Edwin L. Bennet Funeral Home in Scarsdale, NY between 8 am and 9:30 am, followed by the funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale NY at 10 am. A private ceremony for the Christian rites of burial will follow for the immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate). The family of Joan Mino wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
