Guy Paul Mark Novo was born in New York City on August 20, 1949. An honor student at New Rochelle High School, he later attended New York University where he was a member of the ROTC Pershing Rifles Honor Society. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Armored Cavalry Division, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. A scholarship recipient, he attended St. John’s University Law School where he distinguished himself by winning multiple prestigious state and national competition awards, and serving as a member of the Moot Court Executive Board. He earned a post-doctoral LLM degree in International Tax Law from NYU in 1980. He was a member of the international tax department at Coudert Brothers Law Firm for ten years. Later he served as international tax counsel for NYNEX and worked in the same capacity when the company grew into Bell Atlantic. In 1995, he established a private law practice in Hartsdale, NY serving hundreds of clients domestically and internationally. A gifted teacher, he was an Adjunct Professor at St. John’s Law School for many years. In 2013, he was appointed “Of Counsel” to the NY law firm of Becker & Poliakoff.
Guy’s spirit of generosity, selflessness, and boundless charity can be seen in his decades of fundraising for The March of Dimes in gratitude for his son’s perfect health at birth. A convert to Roman Catholicism, he did countless good works for the Church, most of them anonymously. He was honored to serve on the Board of Directors of St. Christopher’s Inn at Graymoor working with the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement for many years.
He will be missed for his unique sense of humor, love of family, dedication to his clients and students, and always as a valued colleague. A caring husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather, and loyal friend, he was, in every regard, a gentleman of the first order.
