Aine was born in Dublin, Ireland, November 17, 1956, and emigrated to the United States in 1958 at the age of 2.
Aine began her new life in the Bronx parish of St Angela Merici Church at Morris Avenue and 162nd street. As the family grew to ten siblings (including 3 sets of twins, Aine and Donal being the first set) they settled into a house on Briggs Ave and 198th street. While living there and attending school she began to develop her skills as a caregiver by taking care of her younger brothers, sister and niece, Siobhan, the first grandchild. This led her to working at St Joseph’s Hospital Nursing Home of Yonkers where she was a natural fit.
She married Carl in 1988, and had her daughter, Megan, in 1989. Motherhood led her to looking after her best friend, Ann’s daughter Nonie, meeting other mothers Cathy and Yvonne, and cultivating Megan’s circle of friends, all right there in the neighborhood. Megan, Nonie, Emily, Danny, Ryan and Owen all remain connected to this day. The Oval Park in the Norwood section of the Bronx was the center of all her networking. Aine could also be found volunteering in Megan’s kindergarten classroom at St Brendan’s School where she developed the start of a lifelong friendship with Megan’s teacher, Pat.
After Aine, Carl and Megan moved to Tuckahoe in 1997 she connected with her neighbor Candy and learned about an open job at Greenvale Elementary School. This is when she began working as a Cafeteria Associate in the Eastchester School system and Pleasantville School system in intervals that add up to over 20 years of experience. Throughout her career, she worked with students of all ages, from elementary to high school. And they loved her. Students were always amazed at her ability to remember exactly what sort of sandwich they were about to order. Through this time working, she built beautiful relationships with a great group of women who would remain her dear friends.
When not working at the schools she did homecare for her mother, Eileen, at her sister Ursula’s home. Homecare for her mother-in-law, Elizabeth, in Brooklyn and homecare for her friends' aging parents locally. She had a gift and the skill for caring for others. This gift extended to looking after her youngest nieces and nephews after school and during the summers, a responsibility that brought her so much joy, as well as volunteering with Meals on Wheels, visiting elderly with food and well wishes. There was also a lot of dog walking and cat feeding to stay on top of around the neighborhood. She was always loving and caring towards her family, friends and neighbors.
In recent years, Aine continued to enjoy quality time with her family, road trips to mountains and beaches all along the east coast, trips home to Ireland with her husband and daughter, regular coffee dates with her best friends, and daily lengthy walks all along the Bronx River from Tuckahoe to Scarsdale.
Aine is the beloved daughter of the late Eileen and Patrick Carty, sister of the late Micheal, Gerard and Donal, her twin brother. Aine is survived by her husband Carl, her daughter Megan, siblings Hugh, Joan, Ursula, Gregory, Patrick and Paul and their spouses Peg, Tom, Jeannie, Peg, Kathy and Laurelie. Also survived by her nieces and nephews Siobhan, Deirdre, Daniel, Matthew, Andrew, Brendan, Conor, Catherine, Garrett, Caitlin, Emily, William, Matthew, Patrick, Sarah, John, Thomas, Emma, their spouses and her grand nieces and nephews. In Ireland, she is survived by her Aunt Margo and numerous cousins.
