It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Joan Truax, at Oshawa Hospital Palliative Care on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 at the age of 85. Joan will be lovingly missed by her beloved husband Robert, her children Stephen (Cathy), Leslie Ann (Mike) and Samuel (Monica), grandchildren Adam, Justin (Kristy), Kevin (Lisa), Alyssa, Sarah (Zack), Maya, Abigael, great granddaughter Ava and Mom’s sister Elizabeth (Don).
Joan and Robert recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 8, 2021 with their children and grandchildren by their sides.
Joan’s love of literature and reading was a joy that she shared with her entire family. Her passion for motion pictures and live theatre was passed on to her children and grandchildren as well. She loved to take her grandchildren to see favourite movies and plays.
Robert and Joan loved to visit Niagara Falls. It is where they spent their honeymoon and it was their favourite getaway spot over the years. As a family, we all went there for a weekend in May of 2011 to celebrate Mom’s 75th birthday. We had a great time and made lots of happy memories.
A favourite destination vacation spot of theirs was their driving trips to Nova Scotia. They loved to visit all of the famous landmark spots but Joan’s favourite was the town of Lunenburg.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Oshawa Hospital for the compassionate care of Mom during her final days.
Visitation at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East (between Warden and Pharmacy), Scarborough on Sunday, November 14th from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Private family only ceremony to follow the visitation.
If you choose to make a donation, please consider either Variety Village or Providence Villa in Scarborough, both places where Joan volunteered her time in the past.
