Savannah, - Mr. Robert Louis Lowe, Sr. (R.L.), 89, of Savannah went home to be with the Lord on June 7, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Hospice Savannah. He was born in Summit (Twin City), Georgia, December 2, 1924, to the late Henry L. Lowe, Bertha Toole Lowe, and Eileen H. Lowe. He was happily married to Laura Easterling Lowe for 66 years. R. L. graduated from Savannah High School in 1947. He was a U.S. Navy veteran where he served as a hospital corpsman during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He helped establish the Blood Bank in Memphis, Tennessee, during that time. He retired after 37 years with Burroughs Corporation (now known as Unisys Corporation), as an Electronics Field Engineer. After retiring, he worked an additional 19 years self-employed.
R.L. was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and also served on the following: Building Committee, Secretary of Adult 6, Finance Committee, and Silver Nuggets. His interests included traveling, woodworking, and gardening.
His survivors include his wife, son Robert L. Lowe, Jr. (Bob) and wife Marilou of Lawrenceville, Ga.; daughter Suzanne C. Lowe of Savanah, Ga.; daughter Pamela L. McGahee and husband Chris of Nicholson, Ga.; daughter Patricia A. Stalnaker and husband Bob of Savannah, Ga.; sister Laura Jean Cleveland and husband Pete of Shelbyville, Del.; grandchildren Robert L. Lowe, III (Rob) of Atlanta, Ga., Lisa J. Beasley (Brian) of Danielsville, Ga., John Paul Stalnaker of Savannah, Ga., and Christopher O. McGahee of Nicholson, Ga.; great-grandchildren Hunter and Madison Beasley of Danielsville, Ga.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter, Jane L Bolen, and numerous brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Monday, June 9, 2014, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fairhaven Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 3:00p.m at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7375 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah. Burial will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery with full military honors.
