He was born in Savannah, Ga, and was preceded in death by his parents, Howel and Jewel Lanier. He was a 1952 Graduate of Commercial High School. He was retired from the 165th Squadron of the Georgia Air National Guard, after 33 years of service, and was the Manager of the NCO Club at Travis Field for 26 years. He earned many awards and citations throughout his military career. He worked with the Savannah Morning News, where he served as a Routeman for many years. He was a Communicant of the Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Flournoy Lanier of Savannah, Ga; a sister, Vivian Geiger (Walter) of Savannah, Ga; two daughters, Juli Diane Marsh (John M.) of Savannah, Ga; and Judi Suzanne Tipton (John D) of Richmond Hill, Ga; one son, Robert E. (Bubba) Lanier, Jr., of Savannah, GA., He was the loving grandfather of 7 grandchildren, Robert E. (Tre) Lanier, III, Danielle, Jessica, and Jonathan Marsh, Olivia, Jenna, and John Tipton. He was also the proud great grandfather of 2, Landyn Lair and Adalyn Lucas.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Memorial Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Interment: Private
