He was born on November 30, 1931, the second child of John Paul Kass and Mary Washington Ploch in Fort Hamilton, New York. A Graduate of Adelphi University, and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was first employed with Republic Aviation. Paul worked later at Grumman Aerospace during the 1960’s at the time of the Apollo lunar module program. Grumman manufactured the lunar module that first put men on the moon on July 20, 1969. Grumman also developed the F-14 Tomcat, a supersonic twin engine fighter aircraft for the United States Navy. He was proud being part of a collaborative team that was on the edge of technology. He raised his three children in Dix Hills, New York before relocating to Savannah, GA in the late 1970’s where he worked until his retirement with Gulfstream Aerospace.
Paul was a devout Catholic who worshiped at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church for many years. His greatest joy was the love of his family and friends.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife Mary and his sister Anna Mae Brooks.
He is survived by his children, Susan Ann Dixon, Paul Gerard (Kim) Kass, and Geralyn (David) Abel; grandchildren Matthew B. Dixon, Katie (Jeremy) Stenmark, Karen and Kevin Daiss, John David and Thomas Abel; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Jack, Patrick and Molly Stenmark, and Fitzgerald Daiss.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock Tuesday, June 2 at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with a Rosary to follow at 7 o’clock in the funeral home chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 3, at 11 o’clock at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 11500 Middleground Rd, Savannah. Interment will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, June 6, at St. Charles Cemetery,Paul Baptist Kass, passed away after a battle with cancer on May 28, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Mary Frances Kass who was the love of his life.
