Mary Elizabeth Murphy Hilton, 93, of Sumter, South Carolina, formally of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 at Sumter Valley Health and Rehab in Sumter, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Addison M. Hilton.
Mary was born and raised in Savannah and was a graduate of Commercial High School. She taught kindergarten for 10 years at the old Sacred Heart Catholic School located on 38th and Abercorn. She was retired from the Chatham County Superior Court Clerk’s Office as a Deed Recorder after 20+ years of service. Mary was a very devout Roman Catholic and was a communicant of The Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament for many, many years.
She was survived by her son and daughter in law, J. Paul and Janice Hilton of Sumter, SC; two grandchildren, Karen Hilton and Brian Hilton (Kelly Wu); one great-granddaughter, Erika Hilton, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00am Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015 at The Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament with Bishop Emeritus, J. Kevin Boland officiating.
Burial to follow in the Catholic Cemetery.
