James “Jimmy” Walter Spell, Sr., 75, of Savannah, passed away on February 24, 2014. Jimmy was born in Savannah on October 31, 1938 to the late Collins and Eula Spell. He was a graduate of Commercial High School, and moved to New Orleans in the late 60’s. He worked for Avondale Ship Yard, and retired from Shell Oil in 1992. In the late 80’s, Jimmy moved back to Savannah. He is preceded in death by not only his mother and father, but his brothers McCoy Collins Spell, Jerry Spell, and Eugene Spell, sister Sadie Nolde, and son James Walter Spell, Jr. He is survived by his children Donald McCoy Spell (Vickie) of New Orleans, Cynthia Rebecca Spell of San Diego, and Melissa Stephanie Melitos of Savannah, grandchildren Elizabeth, Caitlin, Julia, Jennifer, Kenny, Christos, Leon, Victoria, Gracie, and Noah, five great grandchildren, brother Carroll Spell of Savannah, sisters Mary Alice Morris and Jennie Richardson of Savannah, and Barbara Daniels and Ruth Fontenot of Charleston, as well as his beloved companion Houdini. Visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm on Friday, February 28 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel with Funeral Services beginning at 1pm. Interment will follow at Greenwich Cemetery.
