Edith Marjorie Thornton passed away on May 7, 2014 at Candler Hospital. Complications from surgery and pneumonia were too much for her 82 year old body to bear. Edith was born on June 16, 1931 in Tattnall County. She married the love of her life on November 20, 1949. Together they celebrated 64 ½ years of wedded bliss. Edith retired from Best Western as an Executive Assistant and was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church for 60 years. She loved to pick, can, freeze, and cook produce from her and her husband’s garden. She was a great cook. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Unalee Anderson, her brother, Harold Anderson, and her sister, Ouida Hallman.
Survivors include her husband, Elwood Thornton; her children, Romie G. (Kay)Thornton, Cynthia Harden, and Pamela T. (Bobby) Moulis; six grandchildren, Chris Thornton, Jennifer Thornton, Tyler Thornton, Robbie Moulis, Cory Harden, and Kelly Harden; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 10:00 until 11:00 A. M. at the First Freewill Baptist Church , 5210 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31404.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Locklear officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Freewill Baptist Church, 5210 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31404.
