SAVANNAH – Mrs. Alice Faye Buck Kraft, 74, died Tuesday January 21, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital with various health complications and after living with cancer for six years.
Born May 16, 1939 in Savannah, GA, she was the oldest child of the late Aaron Wilson Buck and Alice F. Langford Buck. She grew up in Savannah and was educated in the Chatham County school system, graduating from Savannah High School in 1956. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Religion from LaGrange College at LaGrange, GA in 1960 and her Master of Education from Armstrong State College in 1984. She served as a home missionary in Miami, FL. From 1960-1962 where she taught English to Cuban refugees. After Earning her teaching certificate from Georgia Southern University in 1963 she was an elementary school teacher in the Chatham County public school system for 25 years including Romana Riley, May Howard, Jacob Smith, Anderson Street, Windsor Forest Elementary and White Bluff Elementary. She married the love of her life, Orion Ralph Kraft, Sr. on December 27, 1963 at Epworth United Methodist Church. Together they raised two children in Savannah. Faye lived out her faith in God as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. In her spare time she enjoyed planting vegetables and flower gardening. She grew up at Epworth Methodist Church and was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and most recently was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Savannah. Faye loved and was very proud of her family.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Mr. Orion Ralph Kraft Sr., of Savannah, sister and brother-in-law, Joyce B. and Ken Simmons, of Fairfield, LA; son and daughter-in-law, The Rev. Orion Ralph Kraft, Jr. and Mary of Newton, NC, daughter and son-in-law Deborah Faye and Richard Young of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Steven and Bethany Young of Atlanta; and several cousins.
Visitation will be Saturday January 25th from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, in Savannah followed by the service at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel co-officiated by The Rev. Peter Hartmann of St. Paul’s Lutheran
