FARKAS, Nick P.Eng. – It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Nick Farkas, 75, at the Sault Area Hospital on Monday, August 26, 2013 after a courageous 3 year struggle with cancer. Nick is the son of the late Mary and Joseph Farkas and is survived by his wife Joanne, daughter Melody of London, Ontario, son Stephen (Tara) of Sault Ste. Marie and beloved grandchildren Hannah and Matthew. Dear brother of Shirley Huling of San Francisco, Frank Farkas and Jeannie Bright (Jack) of Sault Ste. Marie and George Farkas (Julia), of Maple Ridge. B.C. Nick graduated in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan and worked until retirement at Algoma Steel (Essar Steel). He loved all sports whether watching or playing. He was the number one fan for his son Stephen in hockey, daughter Melody in curling and his grandson Matti and marveled at the stage talents of granddaughter Hannah. Nick always talked about how much he admired the brilliant and adventuresome spirit daughter Melody had and still has and recently he mentioned how proud he was of Tara’s recent accomplishment graduating with BScN. At Nick’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be gathering of family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated. A special thank you for the kindness and care everyone in the Cancer Clinic and 2C Complex Care showed Nick and his family during the last 9 months he spent in hospital.
