RUHANEN, Laura Sinikka (Sini) (nee Veljo) – In her 82nd year, Sini passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 in Sault Ste Marie, ON. Leaving behind to mourn are her husband Seppo Ruhanen, daughters Shirley Pulkkinen (husband Veli) of Sault Ste. Marie, and Nancy Hutchinson (husband Garth) of Oshawa. “Simmu” of Esa, Mika and Kai Pulkkinen. More like a sister than a sister-in-law to John and Linda Ruhanen and their children Lisa (Dan) Keranen and Ivan (Chandra) Ruhanen and families. Also, missing her are extended Ruhanen and Veljo families and many friends in the Soo, Canada, England and Finland. Born in 1934 in Mikkeli, Finland, Sini embarked on an adventure as a nanny in England, then, as far as her money would take her, to Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Canada. Here, she met her husband to be and raised a family. She retired from housekeeping from the Group Health Centre. She enjoyed performing in theatre in her younger years. When not working, she was crocheting, spending time at Desbarats Lake, playing cribbage, going sauna and taking care of her cats. A twinkle in her eye, a quick and ready smile for all and the ability to laugh. In respecting Sini’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Please feel free to make a donation to the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association or to the Humane Society where she found her favourite cat Miki. The family would like to thank the commitment and genuine sincerity of the staff of Kotitalo, who, Sini would wave to each morning as they arrived.
