MOONEY, James Thomas – Peacefully at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the age of 79. Husband of Anita (nee Yule). Loving father of Scott (Nancy), Alison Reimer (Donald), Shaun (Deanna), Margery Quimby (Rob) and Stuart (Mary). Cherished grandfather of Ryan, Sarah, Kevin, Jessica, Jennifer, Rebecca, Melissa, Jonathan, Ashley, Shauna, Samantha, Liam and Daron and great grandfather of 2. Dear brother of Frances Lynch (late Matt) and the late Raymond (Elma). James was born in Scotland, and served with the British Army – Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. He was stationed around the world, and fought in the Korean War. He emigrated to Canada in 1966, a year ahead of the rest of the family and worked as an underground surveyor, an assessment branch supervisor, a tugboat crew member on Lake Superior and as a crane operator at Algoma Steel, before retiring. A celebration of his life will be planned for spring 2017. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to ARCH in Jim’s memory. Many thanks to friends and neighbours (especially Blake Smail, Marilyn Broadhagen and Edna Ibbitson) many CCAC folks and especially Korel and Amy (Jim's favourite nurse “dragonlady”) who made it possible for Jim to be at home on the farm for as long as possible. Thanks to Matthews Memorial Hospital doctors, nurses and first responders. Special recognition and appreciation to the ARCH staff and volunteers who made last weeks and days as comfortable as possible.
