It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Susan Margaret Robertson, March 22, 2021. Susan was born in Quill Lake on October 14, 1955. In 1965, she and her family moved to Saskatoon, where she attended school at Brevoort Park, Walter Murray Collegiate and the University of Saskatchewan. Susan had a passion for knowledge and education. During her post-secondary education, she received her B.A. (1978), M.A. (1989) and Ph.D. in Sociology in 2002. Susan was a dedicated member of the Department of Sociology. She began teaching as a Sessional Lecturer in 1986 and was an active researcher on numerous projects as a Research Associate. Susan was highly respected by her colleagues putting in endless hours to support all of those in the Department. Family was of the utmost importance to her. She was a caring and compassionate wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her door was always open to those who needed an ear. Susan was never at a loss for words with her quick wit and humour that always had undertones of great wisdom.
Susan was predeceased by her husband and best friend Peter Boersma (2007), parents Winnie (1986) and Reginald Robertson (2006), brother Leslie Robertson (1999), mother-in-law Pieternella (2001) and father-in-law Klaas Boersma (2005), sister-in-laws Maria Gammel (2006) and Liz van Doornum (2009), and brother-in-law Gordon DeVries (2013). She is survived by her daughters Dani (Curtis) and Alex Robertson-Boersma; brother Albert (Cec) Robertson; sister-in-laws Linda (Leslie) Robertson, Thea (Gordon) DeVries, Carol (Howard) Huckabay; brother-in-laws Ed (Liz) van Doornum, John (Faye) Boersma, Theo (Shelly) Boersma; nieces and nephews Jenny (Neil), Becky (Scott), Heather (Rob), Tom (Pam), James, Robert (Chelsey), Carol (Chris), Sherry (Nathan), Craig, Linda (Dean), Gordon (Jessica), Lisa (Michelle), Rob, John (Candace), James (Juliana), Jason (Amy), Haley (George), Lindsay, Brandon (Karen), Natania; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her trusted companions, Millie, Lily, Larry and grand-doggo Steven. Special thanks to the Medavie Ambulance and St. Paul’s Hospital staff for the excellent care that Susan received and the compassion they showed for the family.
