She will be dearly missed by her husband and best friend of 56 years Ken, and their little fur baby Tinkerbell, daughter Michelle (Scott) Gerhardt and son Jody (LeeAnn) Baun. Shirley’s three grandchildren Rylan (Emma), Kaylee and Shae meant the world to her. She was also survived by her brother Gary (Peggy) Phillips and her many extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents Jim and Elsie Phillips and sister Sharon Gerbrandt.
Shirley will be most remembered for her hard work and attention to detail regardless of the task, the great pride she took in her and Ken’s amazing back yard Oasis, the many trips to their family cabin at Chitek Lake to continue to show dad how to fish, and her countless hours of volunteering. She was kind, caring and selfless towards family and neighbours.
Mom was always the greatest supporter and cheerleader of her grandchildren’s many activities. She put hours of planning into outings, crafts and games creating many fun memories. Nana initiated the family gatherings, kept the cookie jar full and was always ready to “give a Nana” (a hand palm to the forehead), of whichever grandchild needed one!
Our family would like to acknowledge the proficient efforts and care she received from the Paramedics and the compassionate care provided by the I.C.U. staff at Royal University Hospital.
At Shirley’s request, our immediate family will share in a private gathering to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s memory, may be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Derryl Hildebrandt.
