January 26, 1926 – December 9, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Sheila Walczak of Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1996; grandson Chuck; sons-in-law Rick Fraser and Lawrence Parenteau; brother Henry; and sister Mary, Kath and Lil. Surviving are daughters Shirley Fraser Parenteau of Saskatoon; Pat David (Bill) of Chilliwack, BC; grandchildren Yvonne Fraser (Dr. Ken Carr) and great-grandson Bryce of San Diego, Ca., Derek Fraser (Sarah) and great-grandson Ayden, Kyle, Emma and Stephen of Saskatoon, John Simpson and great-grandson Charles Jr. of Chilliwack, BC. Also surviving are brother Patrick (Dolly) and Mike; sisters Eileen (Martin), Marg (Dave) and Tess who all reside in England; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family in England and Canada. Mom served in the British Land Army where she met and married her husband John Walczak and moved to Canada as a British war bride residing in Brandon, MB for over 50 years until her husband’s passing in 1996. She then moved to Saskatoon to be closer to her daughters making a new life and new friends. Mom had many interests and hobbies during her lifetime. She was an active member of the War-Brides Association in both Brandon and Saskatoon. In her later years she enjoyed crocheting afghans and giving them away. She would also make gingerbread houses every Christmas including this year and would either give or donate them for charity. Mom took great interest in watching football and curling and would often entertain her friends on game day. She was an extra special mother, grandmother and friend who always had a sense of humour. Mom will be missed by her family and friends but has left us with many good memories that we will cherish. Special thanks to her doctors and the nursing staff on 5B at St. Paul’s Hospital and the homecare staff of the Saskatoon Health Region. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A Private Family Service will be held at St. John’s Columbarium in Saskatoon at a later date. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200
