Rose Alma Kruesel passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 with her family by her side. Left to mourn Rose’s passing are her children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her remaining brothers and in laws.
Mom was born June 22, 1933 in Camperville, MB to Eleanor Chartrand and Joseph Lariviere. She was delivered by her maternal grandmother, Philomene Chartrand at her grandmother’s house. Mom spent her childhood with her 5 brothers and 2 sisters in Camperville. She then attended St. Boniface convent for grade 10; she took Home Economics after that where she learned cooking and sewing skills. Mom only went home during the holidays and she travelled by train or bus. Once she was 16, she returned to her family home in Camperville and stayed with her mother and father.
In 1953, Mom went to Edmonton looking for work – she found it! She obtained employment at the general hospital. Dad’s grandmother was working at the same hospital in the kitchen. As faith would have it, Mom ended up renting a room in dad’s grandma’s home, and this is where destiny stepped in and Mom met her future husband, Victor Kruesel. It was fast love, they became engaged to wed in Edmonton before they returned to the Kruesel family farm. They were married August 31, 1954 in Saskatchewan. They remained married forever – over 66 years!
Mom was a homemaker while her 8 children were growing. In 1979, she decided to return to work; Mom became a caretaker along side Dad at Bishop Klein School where she remained for many years. During her long life, the highlights were her family – the celebrations, the vacations. She had many hobbies – she loved a good book, playing scrabble, she was an avid cribbage player, and enjoyed watching game shows on TV. Mom was always up for a lunch out or a coffee. She was a great baker and fresh baking could always be found in her kitchen which she shared with anyone who visited. Mom was very social, over the course of her career at Bishop Klein School and many years with the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) she formed many lasting friendships.
Mom was a proud Metis woman, she grew up speaking her family’s language which was a Cree dialect. Mom participated in many events honoring her cultural roots. She belonged to the CUMFI local and was a citizen of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan.
Rose now joins Victor and her son Ken. She also joins her parents, various in laws, sisters, two brothers, as well as many friends who have gone before her to share in God’s love in heaven.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023 at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church (18-33rd Street East Saskatoon). A private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Rose to Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon. Blessed Be Her Memory.
