Richard McBride passed away peacefully on April 12, 2015 at St Paul’s Hospital with his wife Joyce at his side. Dick was born May 18, 1931 in Dodsland, Sask, one of six children in his family. He grew up on the family farm South of Dodsland doing farm work with his brothers and sisters. When he was in his 20’s he thought he would try being a lumber jack in BC but decided that he was more suited to farming. He then came back to the Dodsland community where he married Joyce (Peters) October 13, 1958 and they then purchased a farm site with some land, south of the McBride homestead. There they raised many fine crops and three children, Ward, David and Dianna. Dick enjoyed many things in his leisure time such as going to the lake, fishing, curling, bowling, going to dances, socializing with many friends and neighbors and traveling of which he was on eight cruises and many other trips to various places around the world. He was also a member of the Dodsland Legion, active with the United Church in many different aspects which included singing in the choir something he loved to do. Dick and Joyce spent many winters house sitting in Saskatoon until 1995 when they bought their own place and resided there up to the time of his passing. Richard leaves behind many friends and family and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce, his brother Lloyd McBride, sister Joan Millar, his two sons Ward McBride, David McBride (Denise) and one daughter Dianna Hawthorne (Bob) and Grandchildren Leah, Laura (Pat), Daniel (David and Denise), Jenna and Devon (Dianna and Bob) and Brandon (Ward). Richard was predeceased by his parents William and Leona McBride, his sister Dorothy, sister Ada Smylski and brother Robert (Bob) McBride. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation (610 Duchess St. Saskatoon, SK S7K 0R1) or to Grace Westminster United Church - Music Department (505 – 10th St E, Saskatoon SK S7N 0E3). Funeral Service for Dick will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Grace Westminster United Church (505 - 10th St E), conducted by Reverend Daryl Woods.
