Maxine was born January 12, 1932 in Strathclair, Manitoba to Max and Vera Franks. She grew up on a farm in the Peace River region of northern Alberta. Maxine was the eldest daughter and helped to raise her younger siblings in a manner that was always patient, calm and caring.
Maxine found employment at an early age working in a hatchery raising chicks and later as a nurse’s aide.
She then moved to Edmonton where she completed a course in Hair Dressing and met the man she would marry---Thomas (Tom) Rees.
Maxine met Tom at a dance and loved dancing with him so much that they continued to dance well into their eighties participating in square dancing, round dancing, old time dancing and pattern dancing.
Tom and Maxine married on May 7th, 1951 and remained married for 73 years. Together they had five children--- Heather, Vernon, Cindy, Kathy and Raymond.
Maxine followed Tom to various locations including Grand Prairie and Calgary, Alberta during the early years of their marriage.
They chose to settle in Saskatoon in 1960 where they raised their family, made numerous friends and built a successful business.
Maxine was an extraordinary mother, wife, homemaker, cook and seamstress. She was a passionate gardener and loved going to the cottage in northern Saskatchewan where she spent time boating, fishing, cross country skiing and enjoying the beauty of the north. She was also a wonderful grandmother who spent many happy hours with her grandchildren reading stories, building forts with couch cushions, and preparing delicious snacks.
Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and in the hearts of those who loved her.
We are forever grateful to have had her in our lives.
Maxine is predeceased by her son Vernon Rees, parents Max and Vera Franks, brothers Clayton and Lloyd Franks, brother Lyle Dana and sister Marita Mayne. She is survived by her spouse Tom Rees, children Heather Rees, Cindy Rees, Kathy Rees and Raymond Rees, brother Leonard Franks, brother Hillary Franks, brother Lawrence Dana, sister Glenda Olson, and sister Shirley Dana, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
